PICANESE'S FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS PAGE

WHAT IS PICANESE?

Picanese is a free online picture sharing website/community where anyone from around the world can upload and share images with everyone else. You can use it to share images publicly, or you can use it as your personal image hosting service for websites, blogs, etc. The sky's the limit.

WHAT IMAGE FORMATS ARE SUPPORTED ON PICANESE?

The only image formats that are currently supported on picanese are jpeg, gif, and png files.

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE FILE SIZE FOR UPLOADED IMAGES ON PICANESE?

NONE! There is currently no file size limit for any image that you upload on picanese. Pretty cool huh?

ARE THE IMAGES THAT ARE UPLOADED ANONYMOUS?

If you are a registered user and logged in at the time of upload, the images you submit will be linked to your username. However, if you are not logged in, all images you upload will be completely anonymous. This means that you can upload any image you want without ever sharing your identity to the world. No one will ever know who you are.

ARE THE IMAGES THAT ARE UPLOADED PRIVATE?

Yes, uploaded images are private ONLY if the user chooses the "private" option before upload. Images are NOT private if the user chooses the "public" option. In addition, "nsfw" images are not private as they may still be searchable. By default, the upload privacy setting is set to "private" just in case users want to make quick uploads for personal use. If you want to share your images in the public galleries of picanese, simply select the "public" option or "nsfw" if you want to share your non-work-safe pictures publicly.

Just as a word of caution: any image that you upload and flag as "private" will still be viewable but only to the people who you share the link with. This means that your image is only as private as you make it.

DO I HAVE TO REGISTER TO UPLOAD PICTURES?

No, you do not have to register to upload images. However, all images you upload without registering or being logged in will be out of your control. This can be a good thing if you just want a service that provides fast and easy uploading of images you have to serve whatever purpose want. On the same token, it can be a bad thing if you are looking to have control over your own images and do not have a username linked to them. If you want to receive credit for your images or you are submitting images using the picanese bookmark button, you will have to register to upload pictures on this website.

WHAT IS PICANESE'S POSITION ON UPLOADED CONTENT?

I'm not really sure what this question means, but if you are talking about the kind of content users submit, then the official stance on this matter is "upload whatever image you want that is within reason and does not completely violate the norms and standards of acceptable content." Sound confusing? Believe me, it is! picanese was designed to foster "freedom of expression" so-to-speak (within reason of course), and we take anonimity very seriously around here, but we also want to increase accountability and transparency on the users' part when submitting content to this website, which is why I have implemented the user registration system in the first place. We do have a private upload option available, but even that can violate acceptable content if you are using that to spam the Internet with completely unacceptable images. Having said that, we will never ask anyone to provide personal details, and it is your responsibility to make sure that you do not provide such information. If you choose to release any of your own personal information out there for the whole world to see, you do so at your own free will and risk. With regard to uploading content and taking responsibility for such content, you are on your own.

WHAT KINDS OF IMAGES ARE ALLOWED ON PICANESE?

For a more in-depth answer to this question, please refer to the Terms of Service page with regard to acceptable content on this website.

In summary, any image that is NOT "extreme" or unlawful in any way is allowed on picanese. In addition, questionable underage content is NOT allowed on picanese whatsoever and the act of uploading or sharing such images is strictly prohibited. This is where the highly controversial "common sense" comes into play. If it doesn't feel right, then it doesn't belong on this website. When in doubt, don't do it. Period.

WHAT ARE TAGS AND HOW DO I USE THEM?

Tags are simple and easy ways to categorize and describe your images without having to worry about writing a long description for them. You can set tags for the images you are uploading by either using a single tag like "female" or multiple tags like "female, female celebrities, stars" and so on. The commas are used to separate tags, so it is especially important that you remember to use a comma between each tag you wish to use for an image. You can also think of tags as "keywords" to better describe your images.

WHAT DOES NSFW MEAN?

NSFW literally means "Not Safe For Work", or adult content in lamens terms. Images of an adult or mature nature should be placed into the NSFW category so that they do not mingle with the rest of the pictures on this website.

WHAT HAPPENS IF AN IMAGE IS FLAGGED AS "NSFW?"

Nothing, it just means that your images will not go into public rotation and the only ways to locate them are to do a search or remember their links. As of July 23rd, 2012, all images that are uploaded as NSFW are completely separated from the main public circulation and are placed into a dedicated section for them. If you wish to view them, you are going to have to turn Safe Mode Off but be warned: you must be of legal age to view such materials.

I UPLOADED PICTURES BUT I DON'T KNOW WHERE THEY ARE. WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM? I CAN'T SEE THEM!

Don't worry, they were uploaded just fine. The reason why you are not seeing them is most likely because you are not searching for them. There are many pictures uploaded to picanese on a daily basis, so it makes it very difficult to see your image specifically on the front page or any of the subcategories when thousands of images are filling the database. This just means that you are either going to have to remember the specific name you gave your image, the tags you put the image under, the url of the image or all of the above if you want to be able to find your images on picanese.

HOW COME MY IMAGES DON'T HAVE HIGH PAGE VIEWS?

Often times, pictures that have been uploaded are drowned in the sea of images swarming this website, which may be a good or bad thing depending upon how much exposure you want your picture to have. If you want your images to have more page views, share! If you don't want that much exposure, don't share. However, it's important to remember that picanese is an image sharing website. So if you really don't want anyone to see your pictures, it's best not to upload them in the first place. If you really want to see your pictures but are having a hard time finding them, you are going to have to dig deeper for them.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU UPDATE THIS WEBSITE?

This website doesn't get updated as often as you'd think in terms of aesthetics. However, the content itself is constantly being updated as numerous users upload images at an incredibly high rate. Every now and then, certain rules and restrictions may be applied, lifted, and applied again depending on the situation. However, overall, this website is relatively the same as it has always been and it will definitely stay that way for as long as possible. People come here to see pictures, and that's exactly what they are going to get.

ISN'T PICANESE THE NAME OF AN ACTUAL BREED OF DOGS?

The simple answer is NO, picanese is not the name of any breed of dogs. Picanese is actually something completely different; it's not even a real word. What many people confuse this website's name with is PEKINGESE, which is roughly translated into "lion dog" and that name itself is actually the correct title of a specific breed of chinese small dogs. However, for some reason, people have a hard time pronouncing that or they simply use the slang version of it, which is picanese. Technically speaking though, they are not the same things.
